Based on a Myth

I want to take an informal poll: I'd like to know what everyone's favorite novel based on a myth or fairy tale is. This would include sacred texts as well, like the Bible. My picks would by "Beauty" by Robin McKinley and "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant. What are yours?

Off the top of my head: The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood. It's The Odyssey told from Penelope's point of view.
